MoCCAFest, Fresh Meat, and Mastering Comics

Two events on the near horizon should please comics fans and creators alike. The annual MoCCAFest extravaganza returns to the Lexington Ave. Armory next weekend, Saturday, April 28 to Sunday, April 29. For details check

Look for a Cartooning BFA table, as well as members of Cartoon Allies, who will hold a comicsfest of their own the night before MoCCA called Fresh Meat.

And shortly thereafter, on May 8, the eagerly anticipated new instructional tome from cartoonists, editors, and SVA faculty members Jessica Abel and Matt Madden, Mastering Comics, will be released. Mastering Comics is the sequel to their first text book on the comic arts, Drawing Words & Writing Pictures: Making Comics: Manga, Graphic Novels, and Beyond. But you may not have to wait! As a teaser Matt and Jessica will be giving away four advance copies at MoCCAfest. How can you win one of those four? Turns out you will need to doodle your way to a win. Take a look at the link and their description of a doodle comic, a downloadable template, and an example by Matt.
