Film maker Chris Marker, best known for his short film, La Jetée, has died. Marker’s work defies easy categorization, mainly taking for the form of exploratory documentary essays that can seem meandering in pace. But the film of his that has had the largest impact, La Jetée, is composed almost entirely of still frames, with minimal narration. It’s a masterwork of taut story-telling, creating an engaging relfection on time travel while suspending the flow of time itself.
