Spain Rodriguez RIP

TRASHMAN: The Art of Spain Rodriguez from Burchfield Penney Art Center on Vimeo.

The underground comix legend Manuel “Spain” Rodriguez passed away this week at that age of 72 from cancer. Spain was know to comics lovers as one of the original Zap Comix crew. His bold style and political themes helped blaze the path for the underground comix movement, with such characters as his street tough superhero, Trashman, “a raw-knuckled, one-man Occupy movement“. He continued with his art, both on the page and in the streets of San Francisco, where was involved in murals in the Mission District. God speed, Trashman!
