Massimo Vignelli and the MTA


It is hard to imagine anyone who has not come across or even been immersed in the design work of Massimo Vignelli . He was an enormous figure in the history of modernist design and set the example for generations of designers since. For New Yorkers, if you ride the MTA, you see his influence every day in the signage system his international design firm Unimark created, as codified in their NYC Transit Authority Graphics Standards Manual, as well as their iconic map from 1972 (since adapted).
