The Criterion Collection includes 315 films that cover the history of cinema throughout the 20th century, from early silent films like Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush (1925) to releases from contemporary filmmakers like Gus Van Sant and Guillermo del Toro. Other renowned directors within the collection include Ingmar Bergman, Luis Buñuel, Federico Fellini, John Ford, Jean-Luc Godard, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, Francois Truffant, and Orson Welles.
Alongside a wealth of feature films, The Criterion Collection includes seminal documentary films such as Alain Resnais’s Night and Fog (1955), Jean Rouch’s Chronicle of a Summer (1961), and Albert and David Maysles’s Grey Gardens (1975). Theatre in Video contains more than 250 of the world’s most important plays, together with more than 100 video documentaries, online in streaming video. Included are television broadcasts of New York productions in the 50s, contemporary revivals of classic works and experimental performances from the 60s and 70s, and more.
